Dreaming of an Office Shed

It's starting to feel like spring in Atlanta. The sunshine and beautiful pink blooms outside my window have me dreaming of working from my backyard. I've tried this before though, and it's never productive. The heat, the pollen, the mosquitos - it's all too much after 20 minutes. I recently discovered that backyard sheds can be used as office spaces. I didn't realize that there was an Amazon craze for these prior to the pandemic! I'm late to the party, but nonetheless, still glad to be here. A backyard office shed can provide an indoor / outdoor working environment, all while offering protection from the elements should they prove to be too much for a particular day. You also get a quiet and private spot for concentration and phone calls, as well as a much needed division between home space and work space.
This was the first outdoor shed turned home office that I saw. I immediately fell in love with the concept. The glass on the shed doors provides the option for an indoor / outdoor experience. When the weather is nice, you could use the patio with a few chairs for a lunch or happy hour. Sounds lovely. If you watch the video tour of the space (click picture to link out), you will see all the storage that was put into the shed, which allows for a clean and organized work space. The owner filled the space with inspirational books, artwork and even a record player. Added bonus, the shed came with all the pieces needed for the structure, so a carpenter put it together over the course of a weekend. While the customization took time and additional dollars, these prefab options are great for timelines.

This next office shed even has a bathroom, and it's beautiful! Of course all of this - the nice fixtures, electricity, plumbing etc. comes with an added price tag. But the end result is really beautiful if it fits in your budget. I love the floor to ceiling glass on the front as well as the lighting fixtures.

I love the glass sliding doors in this one and how you step out into a lovely garden with sitting area. The different colors of the shed are a beautiful contrast especially against the colors of the garden.

I also like that an office in the backyard gives you flexibility in the way you design and style it. You wouldn't want anything that completely clashed with your home, but you have a lot more freedom. If you are a business owner and your brand has a certain aesthetic that wouldn't normally go in your home - color palette is an example - you could likely more easily incorporate these things into your space and really make it your own.
